Incessant showers cause landslide at Badrinath Highway, Uttarakhand

The traffic was interrupted and the roads were blocked on Thursday, 30th June 2020 after heavy downpour hit Uttarakhand followed by a landslide at Badrinath Highway in Bajpur of the Chamoli district.

No damage to life and property has been reported yet. An operation was deployed at the place to clear the road and resume the movement of traffic.

Something similar happened on July 16th, when the Badrinath Highway at Pagal Nala and Lam Bagar in Chamoli district was obstructed because of falling off of rocks after heavy rains.

There is an increase in water levels of many rivers and landslides across the state in the last 48 hours after heavy rains.

The intense rains, beside the massive floods in Bihar and Assam, has caused a lot of damage this year.

Two temporary shops and a makeshift residential dwelling were reported completely damaged after the landslide hit the region due to overnight downpour near Tehri bus stand. Officials were rushed as soon as the incident happened to help the affected ones, shifting them to safer places.

An orange alert for rain was issued by MeT department for Friday, 31st June 2020 whereas yellow one was issued across the state for August 1-3.

The water level of the holy Ganga river was also flowing above the danger level of 293 metres in Haridwar on 29th July 2020, Wednesday.
