On one hand, when people are still suffering from the loss of lives by lightning, the state of Bihar is now in danger of floods. When an alert was issued in Nepal for heavy rainfall, the same danger was diverted towards Bihar. If Nepal receives incessant rains, there will be a direct effect on some districts in Bihar and they will be facing Flood like situations.
The ministry of Nepal, through notifications, has issued an alert for heavy rains from 8 July 2020 to 12 July 2020. This downpour in Nepal can lead to the rise in the water level of rivers in Bihar, therefore threatening the breach of embarkments. There is a possibility that districts such as east and west Champaran, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Supaul, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Araria, Madhepura, Katihar, Purnea, and Kishanganj can face flood-like situations.
In view of this danger, chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar has requested the Disaster Management Department, Water Resources Department including SDRF and NDRF to remain alert and keep a good track of the situations. Instructions were also issued by him for the Disaster Management Department for immediate actions if the possibility of heavy rains prevails. CM Nitish Kumar issued orders for the personnel and officials of the disaster management department along with the engineers of the water resources department to keep an eye on the embankments and report if the situation worsens. The teams of NDRF and SDRF, who are already assigned in the districts are also under the order of CM to be in an alert mode so that appropriate actions can be taken at the time of disaster.
According to the information provided by Nepal’s Ministry of Home Affairs, there’s a chance of a drastic water level increase in the rivers- Narayani, Kosi, Kamla, Bagmati, Kankai, and its tributaries. The Terai region has also been put on high alert concerning flooding.
