What is 'Janta Curfew'?
‘Janata curfew’ shall be a self-imposed ban by the citizens upon their movements on March 22, expect those who have to travel in the view of extreme importance or emergency duties.
New Delhi: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address to the nation said a ‘janata curfew’ will be implemented on 22nd March, 2020 in view of coronavirus outbreak.
On 22nd March, 2020 (Sunday), from 7 am in the morning till 9 pm in the evening, NO CITIZEN except those in essential services, should leave their homes.
“This self-imposed ban will be a testimony to our restraint in the carrying out our duties in the service of our nation,” he added, urging the citizens to remain indoors as India remains in the crucial stage 2 of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
“This will prepare us for future circumstance,” the prime minister added.
He also appealed to the citizens to call at least 10 people every day and tell them about the ‘Janta Curfew’ as well as the measures to prevent coronavirus.
The prime minister urged the citizens to express their gratitude by standing in their doorways and clapping and their hands to laud the efforts of those working round the clock to keep India healthy.
“At 5 PM on March 22, 2020 the day of the Janta Curfew, from your homes, please stand in your balconies to thank doctors, nurses, paramedics, municipal staff, armed forces, airport staff, by clapping your hands or making noise with utensils,” he said during his speech today.
“I also urge the administration to spread awareness about this by sounding a siren on Sunday at 5 pm,” he further added.
